Understanding Change

change_aheadChange as defined by Oxford is “to become different” or “to pass from one state or form into another”. Whether its an an evolution or a revolution, it’s the change that is consistent in these two forms of developments. Change is the inevitable truth and is one single constant still many of us feel the stability being the ground to stand upon & vote for. Someone mentioned once – “They must often change who would be constant in happiness or wisdom.

Changes are dated back to the very existence of matter, gasses, cosmology and the universe itself. Big Bang changed the way, the universe exist now, spatial objects drifting far constantly. Speeds accelerating (acceleration is a change), objects, masses, planets, satellites, stars all in creation as offspring of this very change. Pinching the thought to a smaller level, and electrons, protons, atoms .. all in constant change. Millions of reactions occur every second to bring a change. We standing at one single position is also changing as the earth moves, the galaxy rotates … So, where is the stability in this picture? Is there something that is actually firm and permanent in this ever changing universe? The answer is – Yes, there is! And that can only be sought by the relative perception of ours for something and/or someone. The steadiness of something can be observed if being in the same boundary i.e. the observer and the object in one single frame. Lets try a “merry-go-round” and be seated. Once it starts to move, you can still find your peers stable well seated next to you without a change (except the shrills and gesture change). But, ask an observer taking a video of your circles of happiness. To him, you are constantly changing and so is your peer. So, change to one, is stability to another.

Same holds true for psychology of any human being. We all are changing, time is ticking, molecules breaking every now and then, food being digested, energy changing its different forms. But, still why are we afraid when it comes to change. We are afraid that we will be looked upon as “unstable” personalities. Is it true? Yes, I am afraid, but it’s true. I myself have been on the receiving end of this remark many a times. But, then I changed (yet again) and started to overlook it. People are either susceptible to change or immune. The one’s who are susceptible are prone to look forward and foresee, and the people who are immune to change and firm often look in the past of what they have achieved. The firmness in thoughts often firms your intuition and creates a telescopic view of the world. You start seeing everything in aspects of its longevity on that position rather than its changing behavior as per situation. This means a boat can pass the storm not by standing still, but changing the sail in the direction of winds.

… more to continue soon.
